Kathmandu Protecting and treating infected or suspected individuals is not necessarily a safeguard for healthcare workers, PPE, Personal Protective Equipment. With the rise of Corona fears, the demand for PPE in Nepal has increased drastically and scarcity has arisen.
With the absence of PPE, Mahavir Pun's National Invention Center took the initiative of producing it at home. The Center has already started PPE production with the approval of Nepal Medical Council.
However, some health sector experts said that Nepal does not have the technology and manpower to produce quality PPE. They point out that health workers may be at risk of infection if they are made using PPE that does not meet all the criteria.
Dr. Samir is constantly raising awareness about the virus through social media and the media. Ravindra Samir says that although PPE production efforts are enjoyable within Nepal, it is not possible to maintain its quality. In an interaction with the online news agency, he said that the health workers working in the area of high risk PPE should not be used by some hospitals, including the invention center. He argued that low-risk health workers could use such PPE.
On the topic of PPE, Dr. Like the saying of Samir
PPE is not just a gown or a dress. This is a device. It is also a very sensitive thing for health workers.
Along with the corona virus infection, health centers in Nepal have lacked PPE. Lack of scarcity is also natural, as demand is high now. However, in the name of fulfilling this shortage, various tailors and garments have been sewing raincoat clothes, called PPE, in general. Some have even advertised 'PPE sewing' here. However, making PPE is not that easy.
The size of the corona virus is smaller than 5.5 nanograms. It cannot be seen with an open eye. Therefore, sewing is so important that even the smallest virus is not accessible. Nepal does not have the technology and manpower required for such sewing. The sieve holes in the sewing of normal needle yarn are not considered to be completely safe as the virus can pass through them.
Another virus that can spread the virus is the mosquito holes in the chain. In quality PPE, such chains are also air tight. Different objects are connected in PPE. The key is to sing. This fabric is not only synthetic but also of synthetic type. The other is a head cap, made of gown. Helmets can also be used in very sensitive situations. But, that is not what we need.
The head cap is accompanied by vizier and goggles. The goggles should have an air tight, so that it looks well and leaves no space. Because the corona virus can also pass through the eyes.
Then needed the N94 mask. It has to be added to the respirator for ease of breathing. Similarly, because the head cap covers both ears, there is a problem with hearing. It also requires 'Year Aid'.
Then quality gloves are needed. And the soles of shoes or slippers should be infectious. When all these requirements are met, a secure PPE is finally ready. Which protects the virus from infection. Its production is not possible in Nepal right now. Therefore, any remedy has to be brought from abroad. We can ask for help from other countries.
Outside are PPE of certain criteria. Cheap ones are also available. China produces cheaper products. However, this time it is not cheap to find quality. Now being tax free, quality PPE can be obtained for up to one hundred dollars.
In countries like USA, UK and China, there is a National Institute of Occupational Health. Such organizations do PPE by research. PP has a separate factory. It packs all sets and seals.
Storage of PPE also has different parameters. Transfer also has parameters. Branded PPE warranty. It is insured. If the virus goes away tomorrow, then the company will have to pay compensation.
PPE is also not easy to use. In fact, it can be very tedious to work with. The hail is sweating. Working in a place where there is no AC makes it even more stressful.
Initially, applying PPE can make breathing difficult. This is a matter of course. To change However, a doctor has to work for 3 hours continuously. Long-term doctors with PPE may have a problem with Angiitis. Excessive irritation can also make the patient feel rude.
Another problem is that a person wearing PPE should feel completely dehydrated or dehydrated. Again, it cannot be used the same day. In order to make PPE free of infection, another set of food should be kept in separate places while eating or defecating. After disinfection or after meals, thorough soap water should be washed thoroughly, using a sanitizer and applying new PPE. So one person needs at least 2 sets of PPE.
Recently, the National Invention Center of Mahavir Pun has received approval from Nepal Medical Council for making PPE. Similarly, Patan Hospital and Dhulikhel Hospital are also making their own PPE. Learn More
It is good to take such an initiative in times of crisis. But, the PPE they are making is completely safe
